Technical terms

Technology made understandable. Technical terms relating to brushes explained simply.
From trimmings to spiral brushes: Here you will find clear explanations of our products, materials and applications.

Punched on head or drawn in
The tufts are inserted into the base body so that only the tapered ends come into contact with the object to be brushed. This results in a very fine brushing effect.

Trimming
Designation for the entirety of the fill material used in a brush.

Stocking density
Number of bristle tips (bristle ends) per surface unit.

Tuft by tuft stocking
Manufacturing method of inserting the fill material as a large number of individual tufts into pre-drilled holes in the brush body.

Brush core
Designation for a steel tube or steel shaft for winding spiral brushes or mounting strip brush sets as a segment.

Trimming width, length
Distance l and b of the outermost stocking hole centers.

Braided brushes
Manufacturing method in which the fill wires of tool brushes are twisted into bundles for reinforcement. This results in a very hard brushing effect.

Hand-pulled brushes
Production method in which the facing material is looped into the pre-drilled facing holes by hand using a continuous wire. The retaining wire is usually visible on the back.

Wreaths
Manufacturing method in which the fill wires of tool brushes are used to designate the individual fill rings of disk brushes.

Cutting height
Free length of the fill material between the body surface and the bristle tips of finished brushes. For strip and spiral brushes, the metal frame is also measured for metrological reasons.

Restriction
Designation and dimension of the angle at which the fill holes are drilled into the brush body surfaces in relation to the normal vertical direction.

Spiral brushes
Spiral strip brushes, usually wound onto a core. If the brush spirals are wound directly next to each other, a so-called full fill is created. Winding directly onto the core with a larger spiral pitch produces a spacer fill.
